From inventory to action

In the last lesson you took stock of what your building already has. Now you put it to use. Remember the idea behind the name: you do not have to build anything from scratch. You connect what you have to what people already do, and you make the healthy choice a little easier. Most good ideas are just a resource matched to a simple activity.

Match a resource to an activity

Here are a few examples of how the things you inventoried can become activities:

• A track or walking route becomes a staff walking club, or walk-and-talk meetings instead of sit-down ones.
• The gym or PE space after hours becomes a group stretch, yoga, or pickleball session.
• PE equipment and your PE teacher become borrowed gear and a quick activity they can lead.
• Bottle-filling stations become a simple hydration campaign or a friendly challenge.
• Food services or a kitchen become healthier snacks at meetings, or a short cooking demo.
• An empty classroom becomes a quiet space for a real break.
• The Wellness Station or a staff email becomes a place to share a NuStart Block, a recipe, or a challenge reminder.
• A supportive administrator becomes healthier meeting norms and a few minutes carved out for wellness.

Keep it small and easy

You do not need a big plan. Pick one or two matches and keep the barrier low, so people take part without much effort. One simple activity that people actually do beats an ambitious plan that fizzles out. Start there, see what sticks, and build from it.

Integrate, do not reinvent

Wherever you can, plug into something that is already happening rather than starting something separate. Add a wellness minute to a staff meeting that already meets. Join an event the building already runs. Team up with a club that already gathers. Existing momentum does the heavy lifting, and your effort goes further.
